 This programme essentially deals with self regulation and ethical behavior in the workplace


    Course 1: Maintain a housekeeping service (US14663)

    Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be involved in or working within a services environment.

    Qualifying learners are able to provide a housekeeping service within a domestic cleaning environment.

    The course includes the following:

    1. Maintain a safe working environment.
    2. Ensure security within the domestic environment.
    3. Ensure that supplies and equipment are maintained within the domestic environment.
    4. Provide a reception service for callers.

    Course 2: Demonstrate knowledge of ethics and values (US377693)

    A learner achieving this unit standard will be able to understand, demonstrate and apply values, ethics and attitudes based on the rules, regulations and code of conduct that form the basis of good, effective workplace conduct. This is generic to any workplace .

    Emphasis is on the importance of adhering to workplace’s rules and regulations in terms of ethical conduct.

    Qualifying learner should be  able to:

    1. Reflect on own values and beliefs systems and how they influence own behaviour.
    2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rules, regulations and code of conduct in the workplace.
    3. Demonstrate appreciation of and care for the employer’s property in place of work.
    4. Explain the importance of personal grooming within own area of work.

    Course 3: Apply self-management practices (US14776)

    This learning is designed to highlight and encourage healthy life and work competencies that increase individual effectiveness and benefit both employer and worker.

    People credited with this unit standard are able to understand how to better

    1. Maximise use of time.
    2. Manage anger to enhance personal effectiveness.
    3. Organize oneself for work.
    4. Apply stress management techniques.

    This will include the ability to deal with:

    1. Time management techniques.
    2. Identify and solve problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made.
    3. Anger: its causes, effects and avoidance.
    4. Policies: job grading, remuneration, conditions of employment, safety and security.
    5. Job evaluation systems.
    6. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act

    Course 4: Behave in a professional manner in a business environment (US114959)

    This learning is designed to provide a broad introduction to a work environment.

     It is the starting point for a learner in any workplace  or other business environments.

     The focus is knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in relation to the learner’s own work context and experience of the world of work.

    Emphasis is also on interaction with other employees and the employer.

    People credited with this unit standard are able to understand how to better

    1. Knowing how to behave in a business environment.
    2. Interpreting body language in a business context.
    3. Interacting with people in a business setting.
    4. Assessing own professional behaviour in a business setting.
    5. Maximise use of time

    This will include the ability to deal with:

    1. Ethics and professional behaviour of people in business organisations in their interaction with internal and external customers and
      the parameters of behaviour include, but are not limited to,
      • honouring one’s working hours,
      • the importance of a positive attitude,
      • keeping colleagues informed about work activities such as work in progress,
      • absence from work or workstation, leave,
      • confidentiality,
      • accountability and
      • responsibility.
