Course Introduction
The QCTO Cybersecurity Defender Skills Programme equips learners with the practical knowledge and technical skills required to identify, prevent and respond to cyber threats within an organisation. Learners are introduced to the principles of cybersecurity, cyber resilience and ethical practices while developing the ability to defend information systems against attacks, intrusions and vulnerabilities.
Throughout this programme, learners will explore real-world cybersecurity threats, apply defence mechanisms, monitor networks, respond to cybersecurity incidents and perform penetration testing techniques in simulated environments. The programme combines theoretical learning with practical application to prepare learners for entry-level roles within the cybersecurity and ICT security sector.
Course Purpose
The purpose of this programme is to prepare learners to proactively protect organisations against cyberattacks and security breaches. Learners will develop the ability to detect vulnerabilities, strengthen security systems and respond effectively to cybersecurity incidents while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and organisational policies.
Upon successful completion of the programme, learners will be able to:
- Detect cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities within an organisation.
- Protect systems, devices and networks against malicious attacks.
- Monitor and analyse cybersecurity risks and incidents.
- Apply penetration testing techniques to evaluate security posture.
- Respond appropriately to cybersecurity breaches and incidents.
- Recommend security improvements and countermeasures.
Entry Requirements
To enrol for this programme, learners should have:
- NQF Level 3 (Grade 11) or equivalent qualification.
- Basic computer literacy skills.
- English proficiency.
- Mathematical Literacy.
