Qualifying learners can select and use the appropriate firefighting equipment to extinguish or control fires in the workplace. The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are required by people in the field of manufacturing and engineering.

Entry Requirements:

  • Communication at Grade 8 level.
  • Mathematical Literacy at Grade 8 Level.
  • Ability to attend any of our branches in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
  • The following documents are required when booking / attending the course: ID Book / Smart Card, CV and Matric Certificate or Last School Leaving Report

Why should I do this course?

This course is targeted to all employees responsible for workplace firefighting and appointed workplace firefighters, or persons who want to gain greater knowledge about workplace firefighting and basic fire prevention.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will gain the following knowledge:

  1. Discuss and explain procedures for dealing with fires in the workplace
  2. Identify the type of fire, its context and select the appropriate firefighting procedure 
  3. Identify, select and check appropriate firefighting and safety equipment 
  4. Fight containable/extinguishable fires 
  5. Retreat from fire site and hand over to appropriate personnel 
  6. Report/record status of fire and equipment

COURSE OUTLINE:

After completing registration, the student will attend the nearest Vital College and Enpower Training Services in person for three days to complete both theoretical and practical exams. These sessions will occur on the date scheduled prior to registration.

ASSESSMENTS:

Once all theoretical and practical assessments have successfully been completed, the student will receive a certificate of completion.
