Why should I do this course?

Cloud computing delivers IT services like storage, software, and networking over the internet, enabling businesses – especially SMMEs – to operate without owning infrastructure. With rapid industry growth and increasing adoption in South Africa, there’s a need for trained professionals to manage cloud systems.

The new Occupational Qualification: Cloud Administrator addresses this gap, preparing learners to configure, manage, and troubleshoot cloud environments. It supports digital transformation, and offers career paths in cloud administration and beyond. The qualification is accessible to school leavers, TVET graduates, and working professionals seeking formal recognition.

This qualification is particularly relevant in South Africa where many organisations, including those in rural and under-resourced areas, are rapidly adopting cloud technologies to improve service delivery. Government departments, financial institutions, and educational bodies increasingly rely on cloud platforms to store data securely and operate efficiently.

The qualification supports national goals of digital inclusion and economic growth by building a skilled workforce in a high-demand area. It also aligns with South Africa’s National Digital and ICT strategies aimed at driving innovation and competitiveness. By producing job-ready cloud administrators, the qualification contributes to reducing youth unemployment and bridging the country’s digital skills gap.

A qualified learner will be able to:

  • Implement the cloud management service.
  • Monitor and maintain specific elements of the cloud, cloud users, the cloud environment and overall cloud performance.
  • Maintain security protocols to secure cloud environments against unauthorised access, threats, and other risks.

Workplace Experience
The student will have to be placed at a relevant worksite for the period of time indicated below in order to fulfil the requirements. Workplace experience will allow the learner or individual to practise and gain important experience and empower them to be ‘work ready’. Students should be aware that they are themselves responsible for these workplace placement arrangements.
