Why Is There a Need for National Key Point Training?
South Africa has some of the most important infrastructure in the world, including government buildings, nuclear facilities, military installations, communications hubs and power plants.
In order to ensure these sites are well protected, the South African government has identified them as ‘key points. This means that the security personnel at these sites must have a certain level of training and competency to provide adequate protection.
The National Key Point Training provides this specialised training.

These are requirements for the skills programme.
• Ability to attend one of our branches in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg
• Over 18 years of age
• PSIRA Grade “C”
• SAPS Criminal Record Clearance

The National Key Point Training is open to all personnel involved in the protection of a national key point, including members of the police, military and private security companies. The training is also open to those who are responsible for managing a key point’s security, such as managers and supervisors.
The training is conducted by experienced and qualified instructors who use a combination of classroom lectures, practical exercises and hands-on experience to ensure that the trainees gain the necessary skills.
COURSE OUTLINE:
After completing registration and agreeing on dates determined by Vital College and availability, the student will attend to complete the course.
The course includes:
1. Explain the Requirement of Safeguarding a National Key Point
2. Apply Legal Aspects in Security Environment
3. Demonstrate knowledge of the firearms control act 2000
4. Explain the Requirements for becoming a Security Services Provider
5. Apply Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Principles
6. Perform Basic Fire Fighting
7. Carry out Basic First Aid Treatment in the Workplace
8. Operating a Computer Workstation in a Business Environment
9. Handle and Use a Handgun
10. Handle and Use a Handgun for Business Purposes
11. Handle and Use a Shotgun
12. Handle and use a shotgun for business purposes.
13. Adhere to Professional Conduct and Organisational Ethics
*Please note this scope and timeline changes based upon the students previous training certificates.
ASSESSMENTS:
Once all assessments have successfully been completed, the student will receive a statement of results. The student will also receive a statement of results from SASSETA. This has no expiry date; however, a 5-day refresher course has to be completed every 12 months.
