Purpose

The goal of this qualification is to empower learners to excel as Occupational Health and Safety Officers. In this dynamic role, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring that organizations adhere to health and safety standards. Your expertise will guide the implementation of essential safety controls, safeguarding both employees and the organization.

A qualified learner will embody key attributes such as teamwork, results orientation, tenacity, self-motivation, effective communication, and a commitment to fairness and consistency. 

A qualified learner will be able to:

Evaluate and recommend appropriate Occupational Health and Safety risk management controls.

  • Conduct investigations into Occupational Health and Safety incidents and accidents.
  • Co-ordinate the control of overall Occupational Health and Safety administration.
  • Execute the basic administrative duties required for the management of Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Apply basic data analysis to compile Occupational Health and Safety reports using standard reporting formats.
  • Contribute to production planning by ensuring that the Occupational Health and Safety risks are managed appropriately and report on the Occupational Health and Safety compliance status for a designated area of the organisation.

It is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

Workplace Experience

The student will have to be placed at a relevant worksite for the period of time indicated below in order to fulfil the requirements. Workplace experience will allow the learner or individual to practise and gain important experience and empower them to be ‘work ready’. Students should be aware that they are themselves responsible for these workplace placement arrangements.

Final Examination

Once all the internal assessments above have been successfully completed, we will issue you, the student with a statement of results. This is a requirement to sit for the Final Integrated Examination ( FISA). The FISA is a closed book examination at an approved examination venue and is organised externally by the QCTO/SETA

Important: Please note that there are terms and conditions for this application, and all approvals will be made at the discretion of Vital College.

This qualification provides opportunities for horizontal, vertical and diagonal articulation options.

Horizontal:

  • National Certificate: Vocational, NQF Level 4.

Vertical:

  • Occupational Certificate: Health Products Information Officer, NQF Level 5.

Diagonal :

  • Occupational Certificate: Health Products Information Officer, NQF Level 5.
